There are quite a number of popular ways in which you can brew yourself a cup of coffee. Each of these methods have unique characteristics and will appeal to different people depending on what you are looking for . It of course also depends on the amount of coffee you need to make at one time. So your choice is determined by features such as size of the carafe, the ability to make lattes, specialty teas and herbal beverages and also price, brand etc. These factors, along with what you really need from your coffee maker, should be considered when selecting a coffee maker that will best suit your needs. Here are some types of coffee makers together with their advantages:
• Percolators These used to be the standard coffee brewer. There are still people who claim that it brews richer and tastier coffee than drip models. However, percolators are simpler and comes in fewer designs and capacity choices. The most common design is to percolate the coffee grounds in a glass holder (aimed at stove-top use). The more popular design is the electric brewer that features automatic settings.
• French Coffee Press Also a long time favorate. This works by putting the coffee grounds directly into the boiling water and then pushing the grounds down through the boiling water to make a darker and richer coffee. This type of press have a limited capacity but is very convenient for one or two cups.
• Drip Coffee Makers Generally speaking these are amongst the most economical type of coffee maker. They come in 4 to 12 cup capacities. Various designs and models at different price points are available. The 10 and 12-cup coffee makers are among the most popular units of this type but smaller models are also available for smaller families. For dormitories and hotels the 4-cup coffee makers are ideal.
You get a choice between a glass or a thermal carafe. Maybe you prefer models designed for dripping right into a travel mug. Even non-coffee drinkers can get these just so they have it available for guest serving. This is a nice practical brewer.
• Single pod or One cup Coffee Makers With these the tea or coffee pod is put in a basket. The boiling water coming from a reservoir drips through the pod into the cup. While this brewer is great for specialty teas, coffees, lattes, and herbal beverages, it produces only a limited amount of your favourite beverage so may not be sufficient for larger families.
• Specialty Brewers Machines capable of making lattes, espressos, or cappuccinos are usually higher priced than standard coffee makers. These brewers have functions and features that allow users to produce specialty beverages. These units of couse are also capable of making regular coffee, which make them practical enough for daily use. Look out for things such as serving capacity, type of brewing, physical size, and function.
